THE PROJECT AND THE BOOK.
The project ''12 Sculptures from 12 Artists for 12 Months'' is dedicated to the informal, non-traditional manifestation of modern art forms in Latvia.
This book, which we are introducing to you, developed spontaneously during the making of the work and covers the entire process in the realization of the project, from the choice of material to the different ways in which the completed works were displayed to viewers.
The initial material, peat, is one of the most ancient of consumer goods, and, as you will see, offers an effective medium for plastic arts such as sculpture. Meanwhile the project grew to envelop various other arts: photography, music, video, graphic design and belles-lettres.
Each art, and its place in the project, are presented in separate textual and visual sections of this book. As well as a 2012 calendar containing the images of the 12 sculptures, you can find here information about peat, its extraction and processing, the plein air sessions in which the sculptures were created, the exhibition at Rundāle Palace Park and photo sessions in its formal garden, and about Rundāle Palace itself.
Attached to the book is a DVD of the film documenting the project. In the book you can read about the film and its participants, and learn how the artists composed the soundtrack, created the text for the film, and fashioned its content, credits and decorative design.
The book was made in 2012.
